Statement

We don’t see things as they are; we see them as we are. Our perception is a reflection of ourselves. How we interpret the world around us is shaped by the depths of our consciousness. “Watchers” is an installation consists of a series of five performative optical devices crafted with mirrored hot-blown glass accompanying a performance-based video. Together, the piece challenges the boundaries between perception and reality. The one-way mirror effect of the eyewear allows the wearer to see through the glass while others can only see the reflections of themselves. In the video, the performer discovers a piece of her inner self as she puts on each optical device. The viewers are also invited into her inner world, where vision extends beyond the physical and into the psychological.
